On the topic of overall progress and communication of the issues from EA, GameServers says:

Posted 03/07/10 3:43pm
R5 has been installed to all the servers. I'm afraid we do not have any further information as to when EA will fix these issues. They have been equally unresponsive to our requests as they have been on the forums.

Gaaaah. What the hell!? I really like this game, but this server issue is getting ridiculous.

The whole master server problem has been escalated to new heights of incompetence.

Long downtime last night for a 'reboot'.
Increased problems today with logins, and people reporting not seeing friends list, or worse - no stats.

Then most presently:

My favorite quote on the UK board:
Funny thing is when you use the play now button it works fine. Of course by fine I mean it puts you in an empty server halfway across the earth.

Hey so I was on UDP1 for about... nine hours there. Eventually I did get dumped / Crash 2 Desktop (at the end of the snowy map with no tanks) but for nine hours, I did NOT get kicked, which is fucking amazing.

Incidentally one of the guys playing was named Crash To Desktop. I liked it.

I think they added servers to the master server cluster, there was a thread somewhere - they either did it last night or the night before i think.

Either way, now we can enjoy sort by ping!

Well ya see, Norm, its like this... a herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way,the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. Thats why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

Update: So EA used a time honored tactic to masking code/design issues - they threw hardware at it. They added servers to the master server cluster, but obviously this does not fix the problem, it's occurrence is just reduced.

UDP1 got de-listed betwen 8-9pm last night after almost 24 hours of uptime with a full load. Gameservers confirmed the issue still persists albeit at a lower occurrence rate than it used to. It's been up since.

Well it's too bad he's not on PC. Because then, as a father, you could enjoy the irony of a game that doesn't allow him to type curse words in chat, but rewards him for stabbing people in the face.
